Long time no see In my past posts, I talked a little bit about productivity and things that I felt that I needed to tell you guys.
So to talk about something we have to start somewhere right. Let's start when the first computers were built. The first computer was built in the 1940s and was called Colossus and was mainly use for decrypting the germans cipher during the second world war.
People started hacking in the 1950s or that's what is said by the professionals cause the first time the word hacker was heard was in the late 1950s on MIT(Massachusetts Institute of Technology ).
The MIT model railroad club got a donation of parts, mostly old telephone equipment, with these parts they constructed a complex system, to this act of creating new stuff with other devices parts they called hacking. Like any other form of art, hacking was misunderstood. The first hackers were punch of people who were intensely focused on learning and mastering the art of hacking. In the first years, hacking was more focused on hardware hacking as programming was in their early stages. In this year's anyone that was able to show a huge knowledge of computer hardware, maths, and science and had the desire to learn more and evolve the art of hacking was considered a hacker.
When the first high-level programming languages started appearing hackers left their equipment aside and translated hacking to programming. Hackers saw programming as a way of expressing themselves and the computer as an instrument of that art. All these characteristics that hackers possessed were later called the Hacker Ethic.
Hacker Ethic: the appreciation of logic as an art form and the promotion of the free flow of information surmounting conventional boundaries and restrictions for the simple goal of better understanding the world.
In the end, what is a hacker and why is it seen as such a bad thing nowadays. Hacker is the term used for those who write code and for those who exploit. Hacking is seen as a bad thing I would say because of the press, most of the people when they hear the word hacker their first thing they say " oh u are one of those tech guys who can do a lot of bad things in the computers and steal money", hackers are seen as thieves cause the press doesn't make a difference between good and bad hackers. Hackers are the good guys who follow the hacker code and ethic. Bad hackers are called crackers, crackers are those who use their advance knowledge to steal and somehow gain money with seeling other people's credentials and much more. Most of these crackers are in what is called the dark web and there is where they do most of their transactions with the currency known as Bitcoin. Nowadays crackers and hackers are the same. The word cracker disappeared from people's vocabulary, only the ones inside the industry know the difference.
With so much knowledge being acquired and people starting to find vulnerabilities and start to exploit computers someone needed to do something so in the 1960s was the rise of computer security.
